World number 6, 27 today …
American PGA tour player, Rickie Fowler celebrates his 27th birthday today. The current number 6 in the world has attracted quite a fan club around the globe since turning pro in 2009. Where only a Dutchman would normally dare to be so bold in orange, Rickie has turned it into his own personal trademark. Indeed, since he became the 2010 PGA Rookie of the Year, his name has become synonymous with “Sunday orange“.
He was one of the first golfers to tuck away his dimple-cheeked good looks beneath an oversized baseball cap which he then teamed-up with a zesty wardrobe of bright orange outfits. Whether it’s his own fashion statement or a condition of his sponsor’s contract with Cobra Puma Golf, we’re not entirely sure. What we do know is that he is a colourful player and a joy to watch. The colour orange and the brand of clubs obviously suit his game. Under the motto: “Look good, feel good, play good!”, Rickie is onto a winner.
Alas, for golf fans in Europe, Rickie is rarely to be seen playing on this side of the Atlantic, apart from his annual outing to The Open Championship. Occasionally, however, when it is hosted in Scotland, he heads over a week earlier to take part in the Scottish Open. It’s something that many American players tend to do nowadays. The tournament is as an ideal warm-up for links golf, especially before the all-important Major the following week. In July, Rickie walked off with the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open title. Thevictory lifted him to 5th in the Official World Rankings – a position which he hung on to for most of the season.
Rickie Yutaka Fowler was born in Murrieta, California in 1988. At Golfing Inspirations, we’re curious as to whether he’ll be blowing out his 27 candles on an orange birthday cake …!
Happy Birthday, Rickie!
