Sunny April but not for Amsterdam Golf Show

With still one day to go, the weather-pundits in Holland are boasting April 2015 as the sunniest on record. And that must be good news for the new golf season. Typical weather trends in England normally talk of March winds and April showers, however, there has been a distinct lack of rain this month. It is even more unlucky then that the now only two-day Amsterdam Golf Show, which took place last weekend (25 & 26 April), should open to drizzle. After sun, sun, sun all week, the annual show then suffered a complete downpour early Saturday afternoon resulting in one of the main attractions, the trick golf show, having to be postponed. Fortunately an hour later golf fans were able to marvel at the Englishman Mark Reynolds’ trick-shots during a sunny spell.     Come rain or shine, the Fun Factory for the kids was a big success all day. Youngsters, from as young as 4 years old, simply played on. Little could dampen their enthusiasm. In fact, there was no stopping them. Well done to the NGF (Dutch Golf Federation) and the PGA of Holland for doing such a great job in organising the fun (and full of etiquette) golf games.

 

 

 

 

 

Visitors to the 9th Amsterdam Golf Show could also browse inside the Expo Hall at Golf Club Amstelborgh-Borchland, just a short distance from the Amsterdam Rai where the first 6 editions took place, and pick up some golf bargains, golf holiday ideas and, should they dare, some very loud and crazily-patterned golf trousers. Yes, Loud Mouth Golf is certainly adding colour to the game!

 

Organiser Arthur Beerendonk brought the Amsterdam Golf Show almost back to its roots this year. Just a shame the weather didn’t play ball. Typically, the Monday after the show was sunny and dry – perfect weather for the breakdown of the exhibition and outside activities. With a little bit of luck, perhaps Arthur and his team found time to play a few holes at dusk … or, better still, chill out with the rest of the country in celebrating “Koningsdag” (King Willem-Alexander’s birthday) on the 27th April.    Wendy Hoad
