Farewell Scotland, Hello Holland!

There are bound to be a few tears shed at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland this week as golf legend Tom Watson says his final farewell to The Open. It’s the end of an era, but believe it or not, that is good news for Holland. Why? Because in two months’ time, Mr Tom Watson, “the gentleman of all gentleman golfers”, flies to the Netherlands for the very first time to make his debut in the KLM Open which is to be played on the legendary links golf course of the Kennemer Golf & Country Club in Zandvoort from 10-13 September.

 

It’s a dream come true for Tournament Director, Daan Slooter, who has been patiently pursuing Tom Watson over the last few years with an invitation to play in the Dutch Open. The 65-year old American golfer is a living golf legend having won 71 titles in his professional career including 39 on the PGA Tour and eight Major titles (five Open Championships, two US Masters and one US Open). Only five other players have won more Majors in their careers.

 

The KLM Open will provide a unique opportunity for golf fans in Europe to see one of the world’s golfing greats in action enjoying his favourite type of golf on the beautiful links course of the Kennemer.
