144th Open Golf Championship
Rory McIlroy’s dream of retaining the Claret Jug was shattered a couple of weeks ago when the world number one bizarrely ruptured ligaments in his ankle whilst playing football. He’s not only had to pull out of the 144th Open Championship in Scotland, but he also risks losing his number one spot to a very on-form and seriously threatening Jordan Spieth.
The 21-year old from Texas has already pocketed two Major titles this year, including a coveted Masters green jacket. After Sunday’s victory in the John Deere Classic in America, Spieth is still riding on a high. Next stop: The Open which starts tomorrow. Yes, even without the great Irish talent of McIlroy, the stage is set for another awesome Open Championship on the Old Course at St Andrews (16-19 July).
