Back to back victories in black

Black seems to have had a magical effect on players in the Dutch Opens this year. Holland’s own tour professional, 28-year old Christel Boeljon chose not to wear orange (or red, white and blue for that matter) on the final day of the Deloitte Ladies Open in June.   Instead she chose for a more inconspicuous, low-profile black outfit. The choice obviously matched her mood at the time – quiet, laid-back and with few expectations – but it paid-off with a Deloitte home victory at The International golf course, near Amsterdam.

 

 

Last weekend, 23-year old European Tour player, Thomas Pieters from Belgium, also produced some “Sunday black magic” at the Kennemer Golf & Country Club. While Christel had lead the Deloitte Ladies Open from start to finish, Thomas rather crept out of the shadows on Saturday at the KLM Open with an impressive 62 (8-under par) to soar up the leaderboard to within two strokes of the lead. Dressed in black on Sunday, he went on to seize the trophy after a round of 65 got him safely home as leader in the clubhouse on 19-under par. Minutes later he was declared the Dutch Open Champion beating overnight co-leader Lee Slattery from England by just one stroke.
