Sky good omen for relaxed Fitzpatrick

Matthew Fitzpatrick was just a few inches short of shooting a miraculous second round of 59 in the KLM Open in September. The 21-year old English Rookie on the European Tour is pictured here being interviewed by Sky Sports. Just a few minutes earlier his putt had pulled-up tantalisingly short on the final hole at the Kennemer G&CC. The lad from Sheffield had the luxury of a tiny tap-in for a round of 60.

 

The television interview with Sky Sports that day in Holland was to be a good omen. He had already had a few top-three finishes this season, but then, after missing the cut in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, Matthew’s schoolboy dream came true the very next week. Thanks to Sky Sports.

 

Lucky Fitzpatrick played out of this world to win the “British Masters supported by Sky Sports” by two strokes after receiving a special invitation to play in the newly-resurrected tournament. Weird to realise that the British Masters was last held in 2008 when Matthew was just a wee lad aged 14.
