Seriously thrilling four days of golf ahead
Today’s the day! The time: 06.35 hours GMT. That’s the ungodly hour the first three players (Ryan Moore, Chris Wood and Mark O’Meara) have the honour of teeing-off at in the 146th edition of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in England (20-23 July).
Yes, the moment that every serious golf fan has been waiting for has finally arrived! The world’s best golfers are at Southport in Merseyside for the ‘British’ Open, as the third Major of the season is often referred to by non-Brits, along with a number of nervous debutants who have made their way through the gruelling pre-qualifying rounds to play their dream – the Open Championship.
All the big names are at Royal Birkdale such as Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Lee Westwood. Other great players to look out for are defending Champion Henrik Stenson from Sweden, US Masters Champion Sergio Garcia and the Olympic Golf Champion, Justin Rose (England).
Rose was spotted chilling-out at Wimbledon last weekend, by the way. The Gold Medallist in the Rio Olympics was perhaps preparing mentally for this year’s Open by soaking-up some of Roger Federer’s grass-court brilliance and positive vibes as the Swiss genius strode effortlessly to an historical record of eight Wimbledon tennis titles.
Interestingly, Royal Birkdale, which dates back to 1889, is hosting its tenth Open this year. Prepare yourself for four glorious days of thrilling golf!
Let the 146th Open Championship begin – we can’t wait!
