Golf course encounter with racing hero at the Kennemer
In May 2020, ‘Formula One’ motor racing makes a welcome return to the Zandvoort race circuit in Holland. And who better than the amiable Dutch former F1 racing driver Jan Lammers for the role as ‘Sportief Directeur’ for the Dutch Grand Prix.
In the last few years, young Dutch super talent Max Verstappen has inspired a whole new generation of Formula One racing fans in Holland. The fans are in a frenzy. All credit to Lammers and Verstappen and their teams in getting motor-racing back on track in the lowlands.
Guess there’ll be little time for Lammers to pursue his passion for golf during the coming months. And that reminds me, we had a chance encounter with the blue-eyed racing driver at the Kennemer Golf Club. The beautiful links course just happens to be within a golf hole or two of the Zandvoort race-track. Yes, on a clear day you can almost smell the burning rubber!
At ‘Golfing Inspirations’, we’ve dug through our archives for Wendy Hoad’s radio interview with the ever-enthusiastic sportsman. Enjoy!
