Captain’s picks complete the exciting teams
The European Ryder Cup Team is now in Wisconsin, USA for the glorious countdown to the start of the 43rd Ryder Cup match against Team America (24-26 September 2021). In 2018 Europe were the victors at Le Golf National in France where they secured a 17½-10½ win. Last year the excitement of the bi-annual clash was cancelled due to the Corona pandemic. And so now, one year later, the teams, with Captain’s picks, are ready for the dual at Whistling Straits in Kohler. So who are Europe’s Ryder Cup Captain’s picks?
Team Europe’s Captain Padraig Harrington selected his last three players during the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth two weeks ago. In a special announcement after the tournament he announced that ‘Mr Ryder Cup’ Ian Poulter (England) was a Captain’s pick along with former Masters Champion Sergio Garcia (Spain) and an Austrian newcomer to the team, Bernd Wiesberger. So here is how the finished team looks, complete with a new face – the first player to represent Norway:
Team Europe
Paul Casey (England)
Matthew Fitzpatrick (England)
Tommy Fleetwood (England)
Sergio Garcia (Spain)
Tyrrell Hatton (England)
Viktor Hofland (Norway)
Shane Lowry (Ireland)
Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland)
Ian Poulter (England)
Jon Rahm (Spain)
Lee Westwood (England)
Bernd Wiesberger (Austria)
With Ireland’s Padraig Harrington as Captain, he is assisted by five Vice Captains: Luke Donald (England), Robert Karlsson (Sweden), Martin Kaymer (Germany), Graeme McDowell (Northern Ireland) and Henrik Stenson (Sweden).
Have a great few days, guys! We’re backing you all the way for another utterly compelling victory on Sunday!
