Schauffele defends US PGA

Golfing greats gather at Quail Hollow Club

The world’s golfing greats tee-off in the second Major of the year at the 107th US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA today.  Thirty-one year old defending champion American Xander Schauffele stole the headlines last year when he opened with a new course record of 62 at Valhalla GC in Louisville which is the lowest score ever in US PGA Championship history.  Indeed, Schauffele also notched-up an awesome 62 in the opening round of the US Open at the Los Angeles CC the summer before which makes him the first golfer ever to shoot two rounds of 62 in a Major.

The Californian peaked again in the Open Championship in July to secure a spectacular all-time victory for Americans in the four Major Championships of 2024.  Now winner of two Majors, it will be fascinating to see Schauffele in action at Quail Hollow Club this year.  Can the World Number Three golfer go a shot or two better than his 21-under par winning tally?

Thinking about the best golfers on the planet, World Number One golfer, Scottie Scheffler, is looking super relaxed as usual to pick-up another Major title in North Carolina.  Whatever happens in the young American’s life he just seems so super chilled!

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy also made history in the Masters at Augusta National in April which he won for the first time in his career to achieve the Grand Slam by winning each and every Major at least once.  It was the 35-year old’s 11th attempt at achieving this great milestone which leaves the player simply sparkling as the World Number Two golfer.

Who is hot this week?

American Bryson DeChambeau is another great player to keep an eye on this week.  Not surprisingly the rather unorthodox golfer picked-up the third Major of the US Open last season.

Another interesting fact is to remember that England’s Justin Rose lost to Rory McIlroy in an exciting one-hole play-off in the Masters in April.  Can the 44-year old produce more excellent golf this week?  And what about Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, Canada’s Corey Conners and America’s Collin Morikawa?  These are just a few of the many talented players giving their ultimate this week in the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club (15-18 May).   So please sit back and enjoy the spectacle – it will be absolutely mind-blowing!
