Let play begin at the Masters!
The last few weeks have produced some glorious weather which is perfect timing for the first Major golf tournament of the season which takes place at Augusta National in America (10-13 April). The 89th US Masters boasts a field of 95 determined players who are all set to attack the azalea-adorned course in Georgia among them the defending champion Scottie Scheffler (USA).
Victory in 2024 was Scheffler’s second in the Masters. The 28-year old from Texas, who is still the Number One Golfer in the World, earned himself a first Green Jacket in 2022. Last year he put together a sizzling score of 277 (11-under par) leaving Masters debutant Ludvig Aberg from Sweden four clear shots behind him in second place.
Scottie Scheffler is the player to beat at Augusta National. Europeans like Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who is ranked as the Number Two Golfer in the World at present, also has victory firmly set in his mind in Georgia this week.
England’s Laurie Canter, who is leading the European Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings, made a good impression earlier this week when he claimed a shared fourth spot with Bubba Watson, Mark O’Meara, Matt McCarty and Davis Riley from America in the opening Par-3 Contest on Wednesday. Winner of the fun event was Colombia’s Nicolas Echavarria who beat America’s J.J. Spaun in a play-off after shooting a 5-under par, 22 over nine holes. Interestingly, that is not such good news for Echavarria as no-one has gone on to win the Masters after a victory in the Par 3 Championship. Let us keep our fingers crossed for him!
Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa stand as number three and four in the World Ranking. These big names will surely be in the running at the Masters this year.
All eyes will be keenly watching Scottie Scheffler and the world’s golfing greats at Augusta National. The 89th Masters will be as outstanding as always, so please sit back and enjoy the golf spectacle. It will be an inspiring few days!
