A great evening of golf on the box

Golf commentator, Peter Alliss is apparently not the only one at the BBC with a delightful sense of Great British humour. A check of the television guide for coverage of The Open at St Andrews, where golf legend Tom Watson waves farewell this week, reveals some inspired scheduling:

20.00   An Evening with Peter Alliss

 

Looks like a great line-up of golfing entertainment for this evening, doesn’t it? However, Goodbye, Mr Chips! despite the engaging title, is in fact a charming film made in 1935 about a very strict public school teacher and has absolutely nothing to do with golf. Interestingly, the 5-star classic was directed by none other than … Mr Sam Wood!
