Ricoh British Women’s Open tees-off at Turnberry
It’s back to serious Major business for these Ladies European Tour players, pictured here having fun on the canals of Amsterdam during the “kick-off” of the Deloitte Ladies Open. The Tour flies off to Scotland this week for the Ricoh British Women’s Open at Turnberry in Ayrshire.
One of five Majors on the LET calendar, the 72-hole prestigious British Women’s Open (30 July – 2 August) attracts a world-class field. And for good reason. The happy winner on Sunday will not only be going home with the coveted trophy but also a handsome cheque for nearly 290,000 pounds.
Defending her British Open title is American Mo Martin who made a superb eagle on the 18th at Royal Birkdale last year to win in great style. She’ll be keeping a close eye on the world number one, Inbee Park. The 27 year old from Korea is extremely hot. She won her 6th Major last month with a third straight victory in the KPMG PGA Championship. Park is hungry to add the Ricoh British Women’s Open title to her collection. Her best result to date is second.
Fresh from her last European victory, Dutch girl Christel Boeljon also tees off at Turnberry. No doubt feeling relaxed with her new team around her and the welcome recent return to form, the newly-crowned Deloitte Ladies Open Champion will be keen to rekindle the fire that earned her a place in the victorious 2011 Solheim Cup team.
