Historical victory for Rickie Fowler in Players Championship

Rickie Fowler did his Mum proud in the unofficial 5th Major, The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida at the weekend.  A birdie, birdie finish for a final round of 67, equalling the best round of the day, saw the 26-year old squeeze himself into a play-off with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner on Mother’s Day, Sunday 10th May.  Just for the occasion, Fowler discarded his usual bright orange Sunday best for a striking blue with a dash of pink polo-shirt.  Victory was as sweet as candy floss for young Rickie.  Not only did he pocket a handsome 1.8 million dollars, he did it in front of his mother Lynne, sister Taylor, and girlfriend and model, Alexis Randock.  The trio had already left the course to catch a plane home when news came in that Rickie was rocketting up the leaderboard and looked likely to get into a play-off.  A tournament courtesy car whizzed them back to TPC Sawgrass in the nick of time so that his Mum could witness the largest win of her son’s life on the 4th extra hole.  Now that’s some impressive Mother’s Day present!
